Agios Nikolaos and Spinaloga Island Tour

On the way to Agios Nikolaos we will make a quick break for coffee or toilette.

Our first stop is the Bay of Mirabello and the charming little city of Agios Nikolaos. The beautiful bay, the lively streets and especially the unique fresh-water lake in the center of the town make Agios Nikolaos, one of the loveliest cities on our island.You have free time for a little shopping or a nice walk around the picturesque lake. After we drive to the village of Elounda and we continue by boat to the highlight of our trip, the island of Spinalonga. As we reach the island of Spinaloga you will have 1.5 hours to explore this amazing place. There you will have a guided tour through the remains of the old, historic buildings from the Venetian and Turkish times, you will roam the streets and explore the fortress. Spinaloga is an uninhabited island of the leper colony and is surrounded by pebble beaches and shallow waters. Spinaloga was used as a leper colony until 1957.in this small village close but yet so far from Crete and family the stigmatized lepers shared fates when exiled to the island.In addition to being an abandoned leper colony Spinaloga is known for its fortification which was built on ancient city walls by the Venetians in the 16th century. The fortress that can still be seen today, served as a military strong hold right through Venetian and then Ottoman rule until the Cretans evicted the few hundred remaining Turks from the Spinaloga island in 1903!

After your visit to Spinalonga you will have 2 hours of free time to stroll through the small seaside village Elounda, have a re-freshing swim or enjoy the local cuisine. Then we take the way back making  a quick coffee and toilet break on the way to Plakias.
